reflexology
what is reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic treatment that works by balancing and restoring the body through points on the feet. Not only is it deeply relaxing but it encourages the body to heal itself. Typical conditions that reflexology has been shown to help with are stress related disorders, menopause, infertility, arthritis, back problems, migraine and depression. The list could go on and on! Although I cannot claim to cure I have seen clients show significant improvements to their health after a course of reflexology treatments. I am happy to treat pregnant women and have had the honour of treating some clients through conception, pregnancy, birth and beyond.
typical treatment format
A treatment session will typically last for 55 minutes. On the first visit a confidential case history is taken and this will therefore take a little longer. When giving the treatment the right foot is worked and then the left. It is extremely relaxing and not at all tickly or unpleasant. Many clients come because of the stresses and rush of daily life and find that the time out and feeling of peace that it gives them is invaluable.
I usually recommend that people attend for a minimum of three sessions at weekly intervals and often prefer to do six. Many conditions have taken a long time to manifest themselves and in this fast paced world we often want a quick fix. To be fair in many instances this is not realistic and the body needs to be eased into restoring the balance that may be missing. Once these initial sessions have been done then I work with clients to assess what intervals will work best for them and what benefits they believe that they are getting from continuing with the therapy. Most people opt for a fortnightly or monthly session to continue with the benefits that they have received.
qualifications
I trained with the Bayly School of Reflexology and qualified as a clinical reflexologist nearly ten years ago. The school was founded by Doreen Bayly who brought the form of reflexology that is now so familiar over from America. The training included the study of anatomy and physiology and was extremely comprehensive. By qualifying with such a highly respected school I ensured that I had a thorough knowledge and grounding in my subject. I am proud that I am able to put the letters MBRA after my name as by qualifying I became a member of the British Reflexology Association, one of the founding associations in this country. I still attend courses in reflexology and take my continuing development seriously.
